Buddha Smriti Stupa is the central attraction of the buddha smriti park in Patna, Bihar. The stupa popularly known as Patliputra Karuna Stupa, is approx. 200 feet high and is situated in the middle of the Buddha Smriti Park. The peaceful 9-hectare park, inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in 2010, is notable for its massive sandblasted charcoal stupa which houses a unique, bulletproof relic chamber, and sapling planted from both the Bodhi Tree in Bodhgaya and Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. The relic chamber in the stupa , houses the pot containing holy ashes of the Buddha
The pot containing ashes of Buddha was notably excavated from Vaishali. The Buddha smriti museum is also located within this park. The museum has relics from Japan, Myanmar, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Thailand . A prayer hall is also part of the entire development.
The strikingly modern Buddhist Museum is worthwhile, and there is also a library and a meditation. The Buddha Smriti Museum is planned to interpret the stories associated with the Buddha and the ongoing legacy of Buddhism as a philosophy and major world religion.
